Removing The Stress From Traveling
When making a big move in your life or planning a trip abroad, these times should be filled with excitement, and joy, right? However, more often than not people find these times stressful and challenging. Why? Well, as an individual who decided to make the big move across the globe myself, the biggest worries I consistently faced were, 'do I have everything I need?', 'what papers/documents do I need?', ' what will the immigration officer need?'. I set out to simplify this aspect of the planning process and make traveling much easier.

Problem & Solution
Immigrants, Visa Holders, and Holiday Makers face huge stress when traveling to a country that requires a visa. Many people struggle to find out what documents they need and then worry about forgetting them. I created a travel document user flow to solve their pain points, so they can easily find and store their required documents on their phone.

Understand the Users
I asked many people who were relocating to Canada from areas like Ireland and Great Britain. I looked at anyone who was moving over for the summer, planning on moving permanently and just planning to come on holiday. I asked them to share the stages of their journey from applying for the visa, to finally traveling and coming through immigration. I was surprised to find that many people experienced very different journeys from applying to traveling, expressing their different pain points along the way. I incorporated the insights found into my user persona.

Niamh's User Journey

From Paper to Digital
I then brought my idea to an interactive digital low-fidelity prototype and brought it to 10 potential users to collect feedback.
So, why is Niamh worried?
Currently, Niamh is unsure what files she needs and she is finding it difficult to store the documents required for her big move. When deciding to travel, she feels there lack of information and clarity on the process of entering countries requiring a visa. Then when traveling she fears she will forget documents as there are so many required. She needs a way to easily apply for and store the documents for both her travel and her visa process.
Ideation
The process below begins with my initial ideas wireframes, then moves to mockups, and finally to the high-fidelity prototype. In this simple version, you can see how the I approach solving the user’s needs.

User Research
I conducted a user testing session on 10 participants. I used a card sorting exercise to find common themes amongst the participants. Some of the biggest noticeable challenges and comments are outlined.

Three major changes were made based on the user feedback.

Add file button
Originally, users struggled using the 'Add file' button. Information was getting hidden from view and some people found it awkward to reach with one hand. Now, they can easily add files as the button holds a prominent position without taking away from the information they are reading.

Drop-down removed
Users didn't like the drop-down as it made the page overwhelming, instead, I've added a feature allowing people to view what transport they were using as many users felt it would help remind them of the files they needed.

Application Process Re-design
Originally, users struggled with using the application process I had designed, unnecessary scrolling, and finding it hard to find the file they needed. Now, they can easily swipe through their files. Each file is in order as per the application process for a visa. Files will also show their current status making it clear to the user.

Personalized Storage
Users didn't have a method of combining multiple files into a folder, this feature was added as there was an overwhelming want for it.

Get Connected
Originally, users could scroll through a forum, where they could look at topics regarding their destination of choice. A theme for the ability to connect with other travelers and experts seemed to be re-occurring. This led me to design the ability to connect with previous/current travelers to get advice and tips.
